Motivated by the rising trend of delayed marriage and non-committed relationships (situationship) among young Indonesians. This study aimed to examine the influence of fear of commitment on marital readiness among single emerging adults in DKI Jakarta. A quantitative, non-experimental cross-sectional design was employed involving 139 participants aged 18–29 years. The Lebanese Fear of Relationship Commitment Scale (LFRC) and the Sukoon Marital Readiness Scale (SMRS) were administered online, with data analyzed using Pearson's correlation and simple linear regression. Findings revealed a significant negative relationship between fear of commitment and marital readiness (r=−0.180, p = .034), indicating that higher levels of fear of commitment are associated with lower marital readiness, and vice versa. Nevertheless, the contribution of fear of commitment to marital readiness was relatively small, accounting for only 3.3% of the variance (R² = 0.033), suggesting that other factors likely play larger roles. Two dimensions fear of emotional commitment and financial dependence, as well as tension related to the idea of marriage were significant predictors of lower marital readiness. Gender differences were also found, with women showing higher fear of commitment and lower marital readiness compared to men.
Dua dimensi yaitu fear of emotional commitment and financial dependence serta tension related to the idea of marriage menunjukkan pengaruh signifikan terhadap rendahnya kesiapan menikah.
