Abstract

The increasing number of internet and social media users, in addition to bringing positive impacts, it brings negative impacts, one of which is the phenomenon of cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is an act of verbal or non-verbal violence committed through social media. The cause of cyberbullying through mass media occurs for several reasons, one of which is the role of parents in supervising their children's interactions in cyberspace. Parental mediation in assisting their children surfing in cyberspace can be divided into three, namely: Restrictive Mediation, Evaluative Mediation, and Co-using. The purpose of this study is to see the role of each mediation on student cyberbullying behavior. Two scales, namely the parental mediation scale and the cyberbullying behavior scale, were used to collect research data. Data was collected through an online survey of 329 high school students in Yogyakarta city. Latent score analysis was conducted using the Structural Equation Modeling method. The results showed that restrictive mediation has a positive role, and evaluative mediation has a significant negative role on cyberbullying behavior. Meanwhile, co-using mediation does not play a significant role.
