The transmission of bacteria is more likely to occur from wet skin than from dry skin, the proper drying of hand after washing should be essential component of hand hygiene producers. Also, the unhealthy pattern of drying hands after washing in various restaurants and places of food selling has prompted the need for this project. It was observed that a good number of Nigerian citizens enjoy traditional delicacies without cutlery. They wash and dry their hands with a hand towel respectively. This is completely unhygienic as these hand towels are sometimes not changed. Also, the transmission of bacteria is more likely to occur from wet skin than dry skin. Therefore, there is a need to develop a safer and reliable means of hand drying to promote personal hygiene; hence, this project works on the design and construction of an automatic hand dryer. To ensure the success of this system development, we have employed the waterfall system development model, which involves a step-by-step approach of system development. The system design approach involved drawing a block diagram for the entire system, followed by a flow chat the implantation of the C++ microcontroller code developed on the Arduino Ide, the system simulation on proteus simulation software, physical integration of the system on a vero board and finally the packaging and testing of the system which proved to be working properly by detecting the user’s hand and activating thee high speed fan for the hand drying.
