Abstract

Students' active participation during the learning process is one of the main keys to success in education. Therefore, learning media that are interesting and appropriate to student characteristics are needed to encourage active student involvement. The snakes and ladders game can be used as a learning medium because it suits the characteristics of elementary school students, who tend to enjoy playing, moving, working in groups, and demonstrating something directly. This approach centers learning on students and encourages their active participation during learning activities. This research aims to analyze the activity of second-grade elementary school students using snakes and ladders media in lesson study-based mathematics learning. The research employs qualitative methods by analyzing data descriptively. The subjects of this research were 25 second-grade students at SDN Kauman 2 in Malang City. The data collection techniques used were interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model. The research results showed that the application of snakes and ladders as a learning medium significantly increased the activity of second-grade students at SDN Kauman 2, Malang City, from an initial activity percentage of 46% in the "Low Activity" category to 76% in the "High Activity" category. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of snakes and ladders as a learning medium plays a significant role in encouraging students to be actively involved during the learning process.
