Abstract

Abstract: The cause of obesity can be caused by unhealthy lifestyles and eating patterns and lack of physical activity. Obesity is associated with leptin resistance, with individuals showing increased energy requirements as well as lower levels of physical activity despite higher circulating leptin levels. The purpose of the research that the researchers conducted was to analyze the effect of weight training on changes in leptin concentrations in obese women. The true experimental method was used in this study with the randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects studied were 18 obese women aged 20-25 years in Malang City with a Body Mass Index of 25-30 kg/m2. The subjects were divided into two groups, the control group (K1) and weight training (K2). The analysis technique was carried out using SPSS 21 and tested through the Paired Samples T-Test with a significance level of 5%. The results showed a p-value of 0.724 (p>0.05), thus no significant difference was found in the average pretest leptin levels in K1 and K2, while the average posttest leptin showed a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05) and p-value delta shows a value of 0.002 (p<0.05). The results showed that weight training performed at moderate intensity, three times per week for a total of eight weeks, had a high level of effectiveness in reducing leptin levels in obese women.
