Five extracts of elegies are analyzed in the paper based on the Critical Discourse Analysis, in particular the models of Norman Fairclough and Teun A. van Dijk, along with the theory of Appraisal. The results indicate that emotional expression is realised in a systematic way via somatic imagery, hyperbole, and cosmological metaphors, in which grief is embodied and universal instead of individual. The writings produce a polarized discursive level of morals, which implicitly sacrify martyrdom and declaim wrongdoing. The strategies of these languages work on the social practice level of ritual mourning to develop a sense of collective identity and recreate communal memory. The paper argues that exaggerated discourse is an ideological process which transforms previous trauma into intergenerational emotional heritage and it is by this process that cultural and religious meaning of Karbala is perpetuated.
2026-05-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Qasim Abbas Dhayef, Noura Khalid Al-Fatlawi https://journal3.um.ac.id/index.php/fis/article/view/8454 The Internet of Things and its anticipated influence on digital service quality: A survey at the Central Library of the University of Babylon 2026-05-30T11:55:51+00:00 Omaima Hameed Aladilee [email protected]
This study examines the anticipated influence of Internet of Things (IoT) applications on digital service quality in the Central Library of the University of Babylon. The research focuses on IoT as an independent variable represented by technical infrastructure, integration with digital services, user experience, and security and privacy. Digital service quality is treated as the dependent variable and is represented by impact on beneficiaries, information control, the library physical and digital environment, and smart interaction. A survey method was used to collect responses from a purposive sample of 209 library beneficiaries. The questionnaire was designed using a five-point Likert scale, and the data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation, and linear regression using SPSS and AMOS. The findings indicate that IoT has a statistically significant positive effect on digital service quality, explaining 46% of the variance. Technical infrastructure, integration with digital services, and user experience significantly contribute to enhancing service quality, whereas security and privacy, although rated highly by users, did not show a statistically significant direct effect in the regression model. The study recommends strengthening technical infrastructure, improving information control systems, integrating digital services, and developing smart interaction features to support user-centered digital transformation in university libraries.
2026-05-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Omaima Hameed Aladilee https://journal3.um.ac.id/index.php/fis/article/view/8455 Recent Developments in Cartography: An Analytical Review of Research for the Period 2015-2025 2026-05-30T11:52:10+00:00 Hanadi Talib Ismail Al-Qaisi [email protected]
The science of cartography has undergone substantial methodological, technological, and epistemological transformation during the period 2015-2025. This review article analyzes recent developments in contemporary cartography, with particular attention to emerging cartographic frameworks, interactive maps and user experience, artificial intelligence and machine learning, volunteered geographic information, virtual and augmented reality, and critical cartography. The review is based on selected peer-reviewed literature from cartography and geographic information science, including studies published in the International Journal of Cartography, The Cartographic Journal, Cartography and Geographic Information Science, Cartographica, the International Journal of Geographical Information Science, the ISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information, Geocarto International, and KN - Journal of Cartography and Geographic Information. The findings show that cartography has shifted from a discipline focused mainly on static spatial representation toward a dynamic field that integrates computation, social participation, immersive visualization, and critical analysis. At the same time, the review highlights persistent challenges, including data reliability, ethical governance of artificial intelligence, unequal participation in collaborative mapping, and the need to decolonize cartographic practice. The article concludes that contemporary cartography requires a new interdisciplinary orientation that combines technical competence, visual communication, spatial reasoning, and critical awareness.
2026-05-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Hanadi Talib Ismail Al-Qaisi
