Abstract

This study aims to offer an alternative teaching method for physical education (PJOK) through a model designed to help 9th-grade students at SMPN 12 Malang master basic backward roll movements in floor gymnastics. Using Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis & McTaggart approach, the study was conducted in two cycles with 13 students as research subjects. Data analysis utilized descriptive quantitative statistics based on percentages, showing a significant improvement in students' backward roll skills through the Step-by-Step game method within the TGT learning model. In the pre-cycle, 36 percent of students (11 out of 13) completed the task, which increased to 52 percent (16 students) in the first cycle and 74 percent (23 students) in the second cycle. These findings demonstrate that the applied model and strategies effectively enhanced the backward roll skills of 9th-grade students at SMPN 12 Malang.
