Abstract

Previous studies of unethical behavior have shown that many people will engage when they have the opportunity. Several studies have shown contradictions with each other regarding fraudulent behavior between men and women. This study wanted to test whether the use of priming with subtle words could suppress the emergence of fraudulent behavior, especially when associated with gender. The study used a 2x2 experimental design ((PrimingxNonPriming)x(MalexFemale)) with 60  participants. The study used instruments in the form of mathematical problems that must be answered correctly for 60 seconds and participants can "claim" or write down the number of questions that can be answered correctly.  Participants in the priming group will get the phrase "Please don't be a cheater" before doing a  question consisting of 20 questions.   This research will be analyzed by quantitative descriptive analysis. The results in this study showed that female participants (M=7.13, SD=  2,774) showed a higher tendency of cheating compared to male participants (M=7.00, SD=2,236) even if given priming words. Meanwhile, in conditions that did not get priming words (non-priming), female participants (M=12.80, SD= 5,414) also showed a higher tendency of cheating than male participants (M=11.13, SD=7,376).  In addition, cheating can still occur and is not affected by gender, both male and female.
